The Portfolios tab is probably the most important view in Portfolio mobile. This view lists your portfolios, their performance characteristics, stocks, cash accounts and more. Portfolios differ from other groupings, such as Watchlists, in that securities in a portfolio typically contain trading activity. At the root of the Portfolios View you will find a list of all of the portfolios you have entered into the app. This list will include the name, currency and basic performance attributes of the portfolio.
You can configure which performance attributes are shown for each portfolio in Portfolio View Settings by selecting the Settings Tab at the bottom of the screen and then View Settings.
For your convenience, the app may also be configured to show you aggregate portfolio groups based on trading currency. Notice the All Portfolios item in the screenshot below. This group aggregates performance across every position you have entered in the app.
Portfolios can be selectively excluded from the All Portfolios group by disabling the Show in All Portfolios option found in the Portfolio Settings View for the respective portfolios.
Trading currency portfolio groups can be disabled in Portfolio View Settings by selecting the Settings Tab at the bottom of the screen and then View Settings.
Tap a portfolio in the list to view portfolio-specific details, including positions, cash and performance. Doing so will transition you to the Portfolio View where you can focus on specific portfolio data. The Portfolio View divides your portfolio details into several tabs found near the top of the screen. In the Summary tab you’ll find key profit and loss characteristics of your portfolio. Quickly see daily change in value, cash on hand and positions that are leading and lagging for the portfolio. Selecting the Stocks tab provides a list of all of your stock and option positions for this portfolio. Portfolio mobile distinguishes between several types of positions and you’ll find that bonds are shown in the Bonds tab. In the Cash tab you’ll find a list of all cash accounts for the portfolio. Each portfolio should, at a minimum, have a default cash account to recognize cash inflow and outflow from the portfolio. You may add additional cash accounts to represent money markets accounts or other cash-like investments. In the Analysis tab you’ll find additional performance and distribution details for the portfolio including charted performance compared to market indices.
The Analysis tab is only available in the Pro version of the app, or to users who have purchased a Pro subscription in one of the non-Pro versions.
Portfolios contain a number of settings options that are accessible by tapping the Action Button at the top right of the screen and selecting Change Portfolio Settings. The Portfolio Settings View organizes settings options for the portfolio using a tab bar located near the top of the screen. The General tab allows you to configure the portfolio name, currency, cash accounts and custom view settings. If your broker supports Open Financial eXchange (OFX) then you can configure the app to automatically retrieve new transaction data in the Broker tab. In the Analysis tab you’ll find settings options for configuring market indices for comparing performance.
Performance analysis comparison indices can be configured for all portfolios in Portfolio View Settings. Per-portfolio settings override the global settings for each portfolio individually.
Portfolios can be added by selecting Add Portfolio from the Action Menu when viewing the list of portfolios. When adding a portfolio you can search for your broker to see if they support automatic retrieval of recent transactions. If you prefer to manage your portfolio without broker connectivity (Broker Connect) then simply provide a name and currency for the portfolio.
Portfolio currencies should be configured to that of your actual brokerage account. If your broker manages your cash, and values your account, in US Dollars then you should configure the portfolio’s currency as US Dollars. All portfolio transactions (deposits, withdrawals, etc) occur in the portfolio currency.
To remove a portfolio, select the Remove Portfolio(s) option from the Action Menu when viewing the list of portfolios. The list of portfolios will change, revealing a red minus icon to the let of the portfolio name. Tap this icon to remove the portfolio that appears in that row. When you have finished removing portfolios, tap the Done button at the top right of the screen.
Portfolio deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. However, if you make unintended changes to your portfolio data, you can restore a previous backup in the Database Manager found in the Extras tab. Simply tap the dated backup database file that you would like to restore.
